1. Introduction
What does it mean to you to have an abundance mindset or to have an abundance mentality? Is abundance a relative term in which everyone gets to define what it means to them? Does having more money mean that you have abundance? Is abundance a state of mind? In this post, I will explore all these questions along with some personal tips on how you can create and define what abundance looks like for you. Or how you can create your own abundance mindset.
2. What is a mindset?
Before I dive into all the ways that you can adopt an abundance mindset. First, let's define what even is a mindset? A mindset is one in which you wholeheartedly adopt and take on through an intentional way of thinking. It incorporates your values, your beliefs, your thoughts, your outlook and even your overall disposition. As you go through this blog post, ask yourself these very important things in helping you start to define your mindset. Then continue on and find out how you can adopt an abundance mindset simply by using what you know about yourself.
Question # 1: Am I a glass half full or half empty person?
Question # 2: Do I understand my general motivation in life?
Question # 3: Have I identified or updated or reviewed my values?
Question # 4: Do I surround myself with the right people?
Question # 5: Am I living my life with limiting beliefs?
Pause here and take some time to answer each of the above questions. As you explore them, try and capture any trends that will either identify if you are more of a positive person or if you are trending on the negative side of life or maybe you are somewhere in between. Then I want you to write down on a piece of paper your general mindset by completing the following sentence:
My name is_______________ and I have a ___________________ mindset. I believe this because___________________________________________

3. What are the benefits of an abundance mindset?
There are several benefits to having an abundance mindset or way of thinking.
Increases positivity
The way you will look at trials and tribulations in your life will be different. You will not focus on the problems in your life but focus on the solution. You won't feel as if your world is falling apart or have massive amounts of stress and anxiety. You will see the brighter side of every situation. If one door closes, you already see another door opening for you.
Encourages kindness
Kindness can be a superpower. Individuals with an abundance mindset believe that giving should be part of their DNA. They believe that their success can also be the success of others. They give their time, resources and knowledge to every and anyone who will listen.
Enhanced viewpoint
If you allow yourself to focus on what you have instead of what you don't have, it will only serve to enhance your view of the world. Problem-solving and creativity will flourish as you can see more possibilities existing even in the most difficult situations.
Promotes healthy competition
Healthy competition is when you challenge others without being envious of what they have or attained. People living with an abundance mindset are never threatened by the successes of others. In fact, they celebrate them.
Infinite opportunities
This goes hand in hand with positivity. How do you see opportunities? Do you see them as endless or do you see the world as this open oasis to fulfill your dreams? People who have an abundance mindset pursue dreams that others see as impossible. Everything is attainable to them.
4. How can you use your general mindset to incorporate abundance?

Step 3: Reframe your thoughts
Your belief system is pretty powerful. The way you think can make the difference between whether you fail or succeed. Reframing your thoughts means identifying your negative thoughts and transforming them into positive ones.
5. How can you develop an abundance mindset?
Making the shift to an abundance mindset is not always easy, just because you are probably use to seeing yourself in a certain way. But, the shift is possible. Here's how to lose your mindset of scarcity and live more abundantly:
#1: Start with your goals
The first step towards an abundance mindset is your goals. Start to evaluate the kind of goals that you have now. If you are not using the SMART goals method of goal creation, then toss them out and start over. Here is a SMART goal worksheet to get you started.
#2: Visualize your goals
It is one thing to create goals but are you using visualization to help fuel them. Take each of the goals that you create and start to see them happening in your mind. As you visualize them, I want you to start taking note of the following:
- How do I feel seeing this goal?
- What are my senses around this goal?(see, smell, feel, touch)
- When did I see myself accomplishing this goal?
Begin to manifest your goals. See them as if they have already happened. This in essence will not only create a psychological response but will also create a physiological one as well. Your whole body will change.
#3: Get visual
Not only should you see your goals in your mind and see yourself accomplishing them, but also lay them out in front of you visually. Use a vision board to see your goals come to life.
#4: Check your values
Your goals and your values should go hand in hand. When your values change, so should your goals. What you believed years ago might not be what you believe now. Here's 5 Ways to know if your values are aligned with your goals.
#5: Incorporate gratitude
Gratitude is a MUST in adopting an abundance mindset. In my previous blog post: The Power of Gratitude: How to Transform Your Life with a Simple Shift, I talk about how gratitude can change your life. Gratitude has the power to reduce stress, increase your energy, create stronger relationships and increase your positivity. If you are not a grateful person now, start your gratitude journey IMMEDIATELY.
Start with a list of things you are grateful for. You will find out that there are many things in your life to be thankful for.

#6: Incorporate forgiveness
Not many people think about forgiveness when they think of abundance. Forgiveness is the intentional decision to let go of anger and resentment. In my blog post: The Power of Forgiveness, I talk about ways in which forgiving yourself and forgiving others increases your spiritual and personal growth. Enrichment is also part of the abundance mindset. The more you forgive, the more you will feel that you have and are also able to give back to the world.
#7: Your Empowerment language
Start to change your language by creating what I call your ESL. Not English as a second language but your Empowerment Shift Language. What you have been telling yourself could be why you are not feeling successful. Change the way you speak to yourself.

Learn how to reframe and reconnect to another way of speaking to yourself. What you tell yourself on a daily or even minute by minute basis really matters.
#8: Evaluate your finances
In order to feel as if you are getting ahead financially, you have to evaluate what you are currently doing. As a warning, an abundance mindset is not just about money. It is way bigger than that. Keep this in mind as you navigate your finances. Here are areas to look at:
Budget planner- do you keep on top of your finances with a budget? If you have a budget, are you following it?
Spending log- are you keeping track of what you are spending on a daily basis? Can you identify if they are a want or a need?
Income tracker- are you making enough income to support your wants and needs? Are there areas or opportunities for you to make more money?
#9: Your network
Another area in your life that you need to take a look at while pursuing an abundance mindset is your network. What kinds of people are you keeping in your inner circle? Are they ambitious? Are they positive? Do they pursue knowledge? Do they encourage you to be and do your best? There is an old saying: "Show me who your friends are and I will tell you who you are." The company you keep is really important as it pertains to your mindset. Your network could be preventing you from reaching your goals.
It is also important that you seek out mentors, people who already live through an abundance mindset and can teach you and inspire you to do the same. I wrote this blog post in 2024, but the principles are still relevant today, give it a read: 10 Reasons Why Mentorships are Important
#10: Become Opportunity Focused
In the beginning of my post, I asked you to define your mindset by answering if you are a half full or half empty type of thinker. Creating an abundance mindset means that you focus on opportunities and not your lack of opportunities. You see the future as full of possibilities. You see doors being opened for you and you see them even when everything seems to be against you. Actively look for new opportunities. Especially if they align with your values and your goals. Focus on what you have or will have and not what you lack.
#11: Seek Knowledge
I believe that knowledge is fundamental to opening up your world. In my previous post: Top Reasons Why Ignorance Is The #1 Cause Of Death, I lay out careful reasons why ignorance can be the end of you. When you lack knowledge, you lose your power over your decisions. An informed decision is usually a better decision. When moving toward an abundance mindset, knowledge needs to be at the forefront, it needs to fuel your daily existence. Invest in yourself and your personal development and growth. You are worth it. Expand your knowledge through books, courses, seminars or anything that will increase your learning power. #12: Don't Compare
If you focus all the time on comparing yourself to others then you will lose sight of your own successes or your own journey. Comparing yourself to others is a sure way to create anxiety and stress in your life. Instead, be happy for others as they achieve their own success on their journey. Your journey is yours and should not be compared with another person's journey. Here's how comparison hurts your growth all the time:
It gives you inaccurate growth metrics. What you see others doing is not what you are supposed to be doing. You are most likely comparing apples to oranges, when they are two different fruits.
It gets tiring. To be constantly comparing yourself to someone else is very tiring. It takes effort to try and keep up with that kind of thinking. It can consume you.
It creates impatience. Comparison creates a right now mentality. It throws your unique path into question and wants to accelerate a journey not meant for you. Instead be patient with your own journey. You will have what you want in due time. Not because someone else has what you want already.
